How the project works
The Project is designed so that each person takes part in the management of ideas, takes responsibility and has the confidence to take reasonable risks.
This allows each person to develop skills in independence, team work and the work environment.
Key skills are used to reach negotiated outcomes during daily planning sessions and throughout all aspects of the project. These are:
-
Planning
-
Shared decision making
-
Problem solving
-
Communication skills
-
Social skills
-
Understanding, negotiation and compromise
-
Making informed choices
"Perlins gives me skills. I like doing everything here - the eggs, the pottery, planting. It makes me feel good." Marie
Project members become involved in practical tasks, that are set in real life situations, with tangible outcomes, which they evaluate and assess throughout the tasks. They work independently and in a team depending on the project.
The Project is a well resourced environment which challenges and enables each person to discover and improve their strengths, skills and abilities. This is achieved through personalised and supported pathways.
"Perlins keep me busy. I learn new things and I like talking to my friends." Greg
